A New Year often brings new resolutions, but at A Hand to Help, we’re taking a different approach. This year, we’re embracing the idea of a “tweak” instead of a traditional New Year’s resolution. Rather than starting from scratch, we’re focusing on building upon what worked well in 2024 and making small, meaningful adjustments to keep the momentum going.

It is much harder to make a new habit. You need to slow down, build new neuro pathways and practice the new task for some time before it becomes a habit.

So, embrace the tweak!

What ways of doing things and habits worked well for you in 2024?
It may have been making lunches, having days with more sleep, doing the grocery shopping online.

Having a prepared lunch worked great. But doing it in the morning is too hard. Or you don’t have the right container to make it easy. Getting more sleep helps you function better, but your best sleep happens between 4am and 9am.

Prepared lunches can be made in the evening, made in batch and frozen or purchased in bulk to take from home. Saving you waiting at the café and being tempted by food you don’t want to buy.
By embracing the prepared food tweak, you are not stopping what works you are modifying it to make it better and easier.

For more sleep, you may say no to other people’s requests and get to bed earlier or negotiate with your employer to start later and finish later. This is embracing the tweak.

Embracing the tweak is about making small changes to something that already works. It is so much easier than building a new habit from scratch.
