The back to school season is here!
Now’s the time to set up simple systems to make the school week flow easily—for you and the children.
Here are a few quick tips to help with smooth routines:
1. Create a School Hub
Choose one spot to store all the essentials: school library and sport bags, homework, and a calendar for important dates.
A “home base” saves time and stress in the morning.
2. Prep the Night Before
Lay out clothes, pack lunches, and check bags in the evening to avoid morning chaos.
3. Organise Supplies
Set up a homework zone with labelled folders, pens, and other essentials. This allows children to easily find what they need. And an organised homework space enables focus.
4. Make After-School Easy
Create simple routines: unpack bags, enjoy a snack, and settle into play or homework.
5. Having children involved empowers them
Have children involved in packing lunches, organising their things, or following their own checklists—it builds independence and helps lighten your load.
6. Finish the Loop
Teach children to “finish the loop” by completing tasks fully—for example, putting their lunchbox in the kitchen after school, put their dirty uniform in the wash, or putting away their homework supplies. These small habits prevent clutter from piling up and keep systems running smoothly.
A little planning now means smoother mornings and less stress later.
