We all like to have choice and control.
Some people fear engaging the service of a Professional Organiser because they think they will be told what to discard or part with.
This is not how it should work!
Choice and control are important when making decisions about our possessions.
Why are choice and control important?
- It empowers. You are empowered when you have the opportunity to make your own decisions.
- It builds decision muscle. Making decisions about your belongings is not always easy. But the more you do it, the better you will become at it.
- It gives opportunities to explore. Quite often we keep items without making a choice. Belongings may have come your way and no decision was made at the time. Or maybe you are keeping items that belong to others and feel you cannot make a decision.
As a Professional Organiser, I understand our likes and dislikes are different. I never tell a client what to keep or what to let go. That is always their decision. Some decisions will be around quantity. You may prefer more items in your home than others and that is ok. What you choose to have in your home is a personal decision.
The important thing is being able to find what you need, when you need it.
We are not all born with the skill of how to organise. Yet we are all born with the need for choice and control.
