When we think decluttering, we usually think about throwing things out. It can be very hard to decide what to part with. So hard in fact, that the process may never start. 

I find, to get the process started my secret to decluttering is not to say “What will I throw out?” but rather “What will I keep?”

  • Start small. Starting small builds up your confidence. Small might even mean deciding out of 3 books which one to keep.
  • Give yourself boundaries. Boundaries may include a cupboard, a shelf or a tub. Deciding on how much space you are allowing yourself to store items in, will help with the question “What will I keep here?”

Deciding what you want to keep focuses on the positive and will help with the decluttering process.
